  • Samsung SCH-u740

The SCH-u740 is a great phone for the fashion-conscious user who needs continual access to email and text messaging on the go. It has a unique dual-hinge design, allowing its keypad to work as a full QWERTY keyboard when the phone’s bright 2.2-inch display is opened horizontally.

This device features EV-DO wireless technology for speedy mobile internet access, email, and wireless music downloads. Its built-in music player supports MP3 and WMA files, and boasts dedicated touch-sensitive controls. These external buttons, however, while very convenient, make it a little too easy to skip tracks with an accidental finger brush.

The SCH-u740’s main draw is surely its SMS and instant messaging functionality. It comes equipped with three major instant messaging clients (AIM, MSN, and Yahoo), which are set up to send and receive messages via your text messaging plan.

In the United States, Verizon Wireless customers can now send/receive 1500 SMS messages for just $15/month, or 5000 messages for $20/month. Both of these plans include unlimited text and multimedia messaging within the Verizon network.

This phone also has a feature that synchronizes with your home or office computer to keep email, tasks, and calendar information up to date.

Although it can’t be quite classified as a full-on smartphone, the Samsung SCH u740 packs plenty of bang for your buck ($149 with a two-year Verizon Wireless contract), and has plenty to satisfy consumers and enterprise users alike.
