  • Sprint PCS PPC-6700

Launched last fall, Sprint’s PPC-6700 Pocket PC smartphone was the first mobile communication device to use the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system.

The PPC-6700 has since been praised as a highly innovative device with a highly convenient sliding keyboard for fully functional data entry. Integrated Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and EV-DO wireless data capability makes this a highly versatile option for mobile internet applications. Unlimited data service through Sprint’s EV-DO network costs just $15/month, considerably lower in cost than Verizon.

Other notable features include a 416-MHz Intel PXA270 processor, 64MB of RAM, a 1.3-megapixel digital camera, and an excellent batter life (4.7 hours of talk or 8.3 days of standby).

The only major disadvantages of the PPC-6700 are that its display is a bit weak for use outdoors on a sunny day, and that there can be occasional delays connecting to Wi-Fi.

In general, however, this device does an excellent job of building the functions of a computer into a smartphone PDA.
